I do know of Dave Ramsey, and I know that he's helped a lot of people who need to get out of debt. But I don't agree with all of his philosophy, specifically that all debt, regardless of origin or purpose, is bad debt. However, he is still a great resource and his philosophies about the "debt snowball" have helped some good friends of mine overcome their credit card debt.
